Astor pays tribute to ANZACS with dawn memorial service

Cruise & Maritime Voyages is providing the opportunity for passengers on board the Astor in Australia on the World War 1 Memorial Themed Cruise to honour the ANZAC legends with a dawn memorial service. CMV’s Astor will sail into King George Sound, Albany at 4am tomorrow morning, Tuesday 23 January in time for guests to witness a special dawn service from a unique vantage point off Middleton Beach.

Astor is making an extended visit to Albany during a 4-night WW1 Memorial Themed cruise which departed from Fremantle, Perth on 21 January 2018. Passengers will honour the legend tomorrow, 23 January, for the first time ever with a dawn memorial service on board the Astor off Middleton Beach. The laying of a wreath and a minute of silence will be held between 4 and 5.30am on 23 January in the vicinity of the Mount Clarence memorial and Middleton Beach. The Ship’s officers and Captain Andrey of the MV Astor will be in attendance.

Astor will stay in Albany until 10pm, allowing plenty of time for passengers to explore and follow its Anzac story with an optional excursion to visit the award winning National Anzac Centre. Albany is home to the National Anzac Centre because it played a big part in WW1 and that part of Australian history can be explored during a visit. A special RSL afternoon tea with Regimental Colonel Brigadier Geoff Hand AM.RFD as the guest speaker, is also organised and lectures from special guest Jon Doust, an Albany based writer and comedian, will take place on board. Passengers then have the option to attend a dusk memorial service complete with the playing of ‘The Last Post’ on Mount Clarence and a ‘Firing of the Canon’ ceremony.

Astor will continue operating her Australian schedule later this week with an Australia Day Long weekend cruise. Sailing from Fremantle on 25 January, Astor will visit Busselton an ideal destination from which to explore Margaret River and some of the state’s best wineries.
