A Fort William first for Astoria

Mike Hall, Head of Marketing at CMV said, ‘CMV is thrilled that MV Astoria is the first cruise ship to call at Fort William in 2018 during her exciting new Scottish Lochs, Glens, Islands and Ireland itinerary. This cruise around history-packed Scotland is a voyage of fascinating, overlooked wonders just waiting to be experienced. A highlight will be the overnight call at Fort William on the shores of Loch Linnhe. Astoria’s guests will have the opportunity to discover the magnificent surrounding mountains and glens.’

Astoria arrives in Fort William on Wednesday 25 April at 9pm and stays overnight until 5pm on Thursday 26 April. Sarah Kennedy, Company Secretary and Treasurer at Fort William Marina & Shoreline Company said, ‘We are looking forward to welcoming our first cruise ship of the season, MV Astoria, to Fort William on the evening of 25 April and preparations are well under way.  It is her maiden visit and we have arranged for a plaque exchange at 11am on 26 April to be carried out by one of our local councillors to commemorate the occasion! We are working with other local volunteer groups to organise various events such as a Scottish Country Dancing Demonstration, Lochaber Geopark talk, pipers etc to give passengers and crew a taste of what goes on in the town. We hope the weather continues to hold and we can give the passengers and crew the best welcome to the Heart of the Highlands!’

Fort William offers one of the most sheltered harbours located in the Heart of the Highlands of Scotland at the foot of Ben Nevis, the highest mountain in the UK at 1344m. On arrival in Fort William, CMV passengers can take optional excursions to see the most beautiful scenery in Scotland. A tour of the staggeringly beautiful and mysterious Glen Coe with cloud-veiled rock faces, deep gullies and precipitous summits or a short drive from Fort William through stunning scenery is the base station of the Nevis Range Mountain Gondola. The Gondolas transport visitors to 2150ft (655m) above sea level and allow breath-taking views of the Scottish Highlands, including the Great Glen, Ben Nevis and on particularly clear days, as far as the Inner Hebrides.

Astoria will sail from London Tilbury on 21 April 2018 on this 14-night cruise calling at; Kirkwall (Orkney Islands), Stornoway (Outer Hebrides), Tobermory (Isle of Mull), Fort William (Scotland), Belfast (Northern Ireland) Dublin (Ireland), Holy Loch (Scotland), Ullapool (Scotland), Scrabster (Scotland), Lerwick (Shetland Islands), Invergordon (Scotland) returning to London Tilbury on 5 May. It is the first time we have operated this new itinerary.

The MV Astoria (formerly Azores), is a classic cruise ship carrying just 550 guests and providing a very intimate cruise experience exclusively for adults. She operates a spring season of cruises from the UK prior to a summer season on the French market.
