Profile

  • All certificates and licenses as required by the STCW Code for this position
  • Knowledge of the applicable codes, guidelines and standards
  • Knowledge of English
  • Minimum of seagoing experience as Electrical Engineer for at least two years on board the vessels type or other adequate experience (unless decided different by the company)
  • Well acquainted with the Safety, Health and Environmental Protection Management System & MLC requirements
  • Minimum 10 years ship’s experience.

Specific Duties/Responsibilities and Activities

  • Responsible for the vessel’s electrical and electronic equipment, other than radio, navigational and TV equipment
  • Safe operation of all electrical machinery test schedules, alarm tests etc.
  • Executing maintenance works and repairs of the electrical and electronic equipment
  • Maintains dry dock repair notes
  • Takes care of stock control
  • Reporting executed maintenance to the Chief Engineer for entry into the planned maintenance system
  • Ensures that sufficient spare parts are available
  • Verifies by carrying out a risk assessment that crew members are fit (fatigue, stress…) to work during their contract period.
  • Notifies the Chief Engineer immediately of any defects which may affect the ship’s safety or put a risk on the marine environment
  • Properly keeps the necessary documentation
  • Provides information and consultancy in case of inspections
  • Ensures that all identified risks to the vessel, personnel and the environment and establish appropriate safeguards ( Risk Assessment)
  • Monitors technical performance of the ship
  • Ensuring all documentation/records relevant to the SMS is up to date and readily available, as per Company’s procedures.

Authority:

  • Assigns special duties to the electricians
  • Orders spare parts and consumables in co-operation with the Chief Engineer
  • Proposes any changes with respect to the SMS

Substitute: 1st Electrician

Reporting to: Chief Engineer,

Passenger Service

Ensures that AVO jobs are carried out by technical staff

Management

Participates in Maintenance Meetings, may participate in Safety & Health Meetings.

He reports all defects and deficiencies aboard his ship to the Company - usually to the Marine Operations. Matters requiring immediate action and/or assistance from the Company are reported without delay by telephone, telex, e-mail, mobile or fax.

Participates in Master’s Monthly Meeting (if instructed)
