Cruise and Maritime Voyages the local cruise operator, have been working with the next generation of local students who hope to play a lead role in in Thurrock industry. For more than 8 years the London Cruise Terminal at Tilbury has taken on a new lease of life since CMV began regular cruise departures locally. On 8th June CMV’s new ship Columbus will be in Tilbury when for a couple of days local people will be able to book a lunch or a dinner and an overnight stay. CMV are a businesss partner with the local School and the project was to come up with a marketing plan for the Columbus launch day.

On  Thursday evening 23 March Miranda Coates (Manager of Human Resources at CMV) and HR Assistant Demi Starck attended the awards ceremony for “Thurrock’s Next Top Boss 2016/17”, at the South Esssex College campus in Grays (Essex). This initiative was set up by Thurrock Council and is managed by Yvonne Evans (Employer Engagement Support Officer for Children’s Services), the scheme partners local businesses with local schools, Colleges and the businesses give the schools and colleges a real business challenge to work on.

Miranda Coates said “CMV were partnered with local school The Gateway Academy in Tilbury, who were a pleasure to work with. We first met the group in December when we invited them on board for a ship visit (image attached), in order to gain a better understanding of the cruise product and to see the Cruise Terminal and one of our vessels first hand. They were all thrilled to step on board Magellan and left the visit buzzing with ideas for the challenge we had set. The group developed their team name, ‘Beyond Expectations - Operation Cruise’ and submitted their video entry and Business plan to us and the council.”

Leah Coles (pictured with Miranda Coates attached with her certificate & award) won an award for her outstanding enthusiasm to the project, and really gave the challenge her all including a great dance and poem about the launch.
