The Football World Cup kicks off in Brazil on Thursday 12th June and all England fans will be watching on Saturday 14th June when England play Italy. Their first match will be played at the Arena Amazônia in Manaus, Brazil. Cruise & Maritime’s cruise ship Marco Polo kicks off her 42-night Amazon & West Indies voyage 5th January that includes Manaus the gateway to the Amazon. Cruise & Maritime Voyages is offering this amazing trip of a lifetime sailing from London Tilbury from just £2499pp.

Marco Polo sails out to Brazil calling into Amsterdam, Lisbon and Madeira then on to the Cape Verde Islands. Having crossed the Atlantic, the adventure really starts when the ship enters the Amazon River to explore the tropical rain forest. You are offered breathtaking scenery and the opportunity to witness an unrivalled array of tropical plants and animals.

Manaus, the venue for England’s first match, is the famous gateway to the river where the ship will make a stop. It was known as the ‘Paris of the Jungle’. Among the trappings left from the rubber boom years 1890 – 1920, when most of the world’s rubber was produced there, is a spectacular example of architecture the theatre - Teatro Amazonas. Close by are the dark and mysterious waters of the Rio Negro, where at a point called the ‘Meeting of the Waters’ it flows side by side with the light brown Rio Solimões. It is possible to take optional excursions through small tributaries and flood creeks taking you deeper into the Amazonian rain forest. At any point on the excursions are chances of coming across pink dolphins, piranhas, caiman and all manner of brightly coloured birds including the toucan.

This cruising adventure also visits some of islands in the West Indies including Barbados before sailing home via the Azores.

Marco Polo is the perfect companion for such a voyage and does not look out of place on the mighty Amazon. The ship accommodates up to 800 mainly British guests offering a more traditional and intimate country house style cruise experience. The on board currency is sterling, English is spoken throughout the ship and the entertainment is live with top supporting guest speakers and craft classes. Price includes comfortable accommodation on a full board basis plus afternoon tea and late night snacks. Also included in the fare are the daytime activities programme, informative guest speakers, stylish ‘big show’ evening entertainment, complimentary tea and coffee (6am - 10pm) and porterage of luggage from port to cabin. Prices are per person based on two people sharing a twin inner cabin.
